Sallyanne Robinson v Rivers (Australia) Pty Ltd and Philip Harry Goodman
We represent Ms Robinson in this case which has been ongoing for nearly 18 months and has progressed through the Australian Human Rights Commission and is now before the Federal Court of Australia. The case has recently become subject of national and international media coverage.
Whilst we do not normally comment on cases that are currently before the Court, some outrageous claims have been made about our client in public documents and statements that are wrong, untrue or irrelevant.
The true facts are that Ms Robinson is highly educated with two degrees including a Master’s degree. She is in a happy, long-term relationship with her partner, and recently became engaged. She does not abuse alcohol as alleged and there is no evidence that she is or ever has been mentally unstable.
Our client continues to have our full and unqualified support and has asked for her privacy to be respected. She does not wish to make any further comment at this time.
Stephanie Lane v Salmat Salesforce
This was also a sexual harassment complaint that was reported nationally in daily newspapers. (See for example the report and video at http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/sexually-harassed-worker-stephanie-lane-fighting-for-all-women/story-fn7x8me2-1226114798861)
The case is now finalised. We have no comment on this case.

MAX LEGAL principal lawyer Terry McHugh has recently written and published this extremely useful self-help book that is being marketed world-wide.
Totally Australian produced, the book addresses issues that are common to workers everywhere and explains employees' legal rights in easy-to-understand language. It therefore won't go out of date, regardless of the frequent changes governments make to employment laws.

Unfair dismissal protection, which is a basic human right that ought to be available to all workers, is used as a political punching bag by politicians and business groups. As a result, only some workers have protection against unfair dismissal in Australia.
MAX LEGAL - Regardless of which government is in power
MAX LEGAL was one of only a handful of law firms that continued to offer no-win no-charge type arrangements when the Howard government slashed unfair dismissal rights. Many firms dropped employment law from their practices because it was not profitable enough unless they worked for employers.
Major changes occurred under the Rudd Government, including restoration of some unfair dismissal rights which took effect from 1 July 2009.
At MAX LEGAL we always found ways to support working people who had been unfairly sacked and couldn't afford legal representation. For us, it has never just been about making a profit; it is about doing a good job for our clients and providing support.
We plan to continue that level of service in the future, but potential clients should try to understand that we sometimes have more requests for assistance than we can handle; our first duty is to our existing clients.
